Below are some of the local outreach programs we offer or support throughout the year. We would love for you to join us in support of these programs. Feel free to reach out to the program leader listed for more information.

English as a Second Language (ESL) classes works with those adults in our community who need to learn English or want to improve their English skills. Those that come to Grace Church have found a welcoming place with caring volunteers and a variety of levels of instruction to fill their needs. Classes at Grace are offered on Monday evenings, with 10 to 12-week sessions, one in the Fall and another each Spring.

Brown Bag
The Brown Bag Program began at Grace with the purpose of filling the gap of serving meals to the needy and hungry persons of the Gaithersburg community when the Lord’s Table Soup Kitchen closed for the summer months. Lunches are prepared weekdays between June and September at Grace and distributed to the needy and hungry persons in the Gaithersburg community. Volunteers help with the program by serving as kitchen workers, shopping volunteers, collecting community donations, calling volunteers with reminders of their scheduled support. Through this program, people receive not only a lunch, but the hospitality of Grace.
Gaithersburg HELP
Grace has been an active supporter of HELP for many years. In addition to our first Sunday food collections and monetary contributions, we also have several members who volunteer with HELP on a weekly basis. For more information on Gaithersburg HELP click HERE.
Interfaith Works Wilkins Avenue Women’s Assessment Center (Formerly the Community Based Shelter)
is a 65-bed emergency shelter serving approximately 300 women per year. Case managers work with women to facilitate recovery and stability, as well as connect them with housing, medical, mental health, and social services.
Rebuilding Together Montgomery County
Rebuilding Together Montgomery County (RTMC) will be coordinating 18 home rehabilitation projects across the county thanks to the help of 27 generous volunteer groups, including Grace UMC, and more than 700 volunteers.     Rebuilding Together Montgomery County focuses on providing home repair services to low-income homeowners throughout the county in an effort to preserve the affordable housing stock. The repairs that we provide are designed to make homes safer and healthier for homeowners allowing them to remain in their homes and reducing the risk of homeowner displacement. At RTMC, we know that displacement destabilizes entire communities and it is far more cost effective to simply preserve the current supply of affordable housing. That’s where we come in. Our largest volunteer event of the year, National Rebuilding Day, deploys groups of volunteers to homes throughout the county to provide revitalization services that allow our most vulnerable neighbors including senior citizens, veterans, children and families, and individuals with disabilities to remain in homes they can depend on for years to come.

Share Your Love

Each year during the Thanksgiving and Christmas season our church participates in the City of Gaithersburg’s Holiday Giving Program. This is a city-wide community event in which our church joins with the City of Gaithersburg and other area churches, businesses and civic organizations to assist local families in need.

Through the generous financial support of our congregation in 2016 we helped the City of Gaithersburg provide 665 families with food at Thanksgiving and gifts for 1662 children at Christmas. The main food and gift distribution events took place just days prior to each holiday at the Bohrer Park Activity Center near Gaithersburg High School.

At Thanksgiving, several volunteers from our church shared their time to help set up and distribute boxes of various food items including main dish, sides and dessert for families to take home and prepare for Thanksgiving dinner.

At Christmas we donned festive holiday hats and served at the check-in tables and as interpreters as well as “Christmas Elves” to help families make gift selections for their children from rooms filled with new toys, books, board games and winter hats, gloves/mittens. It is always a joy to see the smiles and excitement of children and their parents at these happy events.

We are grateful for the opportunity to share God’s love by serving others through the Share Your Love Ministry.
