Erin Colleen Cooper is the Handbell Choir Director at Grace United Methodist Church. Her interest in handbells began at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Gaithersburg, and continued through college, during which time she directed the collegiate handbell choir as Music Ministry Intern for Asbury United Methodist Church, Harrisonburg, Virginia.
Erin is currently on scholarship toearn her Masters of Music degree in conducting from the University of Delaware. She received her Bachelor of Music in Music Education degree from James Madison University with an emphasis in flute. While at JMU, Erin was a section leader in the Marching Royal Dukes and performed with them in Dublin, Ireland and at the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. She was involved in many organizations including Kappa Kappa Psi, a national honorary band service fraternity; the JMU Flute Club, and Phi Kappa Lambda, a national honorary music fraternity.
As Band and Orchestra Director at Paint Branch High School, Burtonsville, Maryland, Erin led the PBHS Marching Band to numerous awards during her tenure including Best Drum Major, Best Color Guard, and Best Marching and Maneuvering. The Symphonic Band has received excellent scores at festivals and was invited to perform at the 2006 Montgomery County Executive Inauguration.
